Interstuhl

A family-owned Swabian maker whose three current task-chair families all carry the Blauer Engel, the GS mark and Quality Office, with a 10-year warranty that explicitly includes gas springs and mechanisms.

• Plants: Germany, Mexico and Slovakia (source)
• Warranty: 10 years on all products and spare parts.
• Buying direct: An official online shop for Germany and Austria (shop.interstuhl.com) sells fixed editions of current models, for example EVERY ACTIVE (EVERYis1 EV266) and PURE ACTIVE (PUREis3 PU213), with prices including VAT. Other configurations are sold through dealers.

Wilkhahn

A Lower Saxony maker known for three-dimensional "Trimension" movement in ON and IN, with a published take-back guarantee and its own webshop for Germany and Austria.

• Warranty: EU guarantee policy (January 2024): 5 years on bases, frames, shells and mechanisms; 2 years on gas lifts, castors, armrest functions, adjustments and upholstery. Normal use is defined as 10 hours a day.
• Buying direct: Official online shop with prices including VAT; delivers to Germany and Austria only.

Sedus

A foundation-owned maker from the Black Forest edge, with "Made in Germany" production at two German sites and a 10-year repairability promise.

• Warranty: 5 years on se:motion and se:flex (product pages and shop).
• Buying direct: Official shop (German language) with euro prices including VAT; delivery countries not checked.

Vitra

Swiss-owned, German-assembled: Vitra’s office seating is finished in Weil am Rhein, and ID Mesh is one of the few task chairs here with a third-party verified EPD.

• Plants: Weil am Rhein, Germany (source)
• Warranty: The ID Mesh passport states a general two-year warranty.
• Buying direct: vitra.com is Vitra’s official online shop, with country versions that show prices (for example ID Mesh from €661 in Germany on 20 October 2026). The Austrian site showed no prices.

Löffler

A Franconian maker that builds everything in one Hersbruck facility and publishes the longest mechanism warranty in this register: 30 years.

• Plants: Hersbruck, Germany (source)
• Warranty: 30 years on mechanics and 10 years on fabrics for chairs bought since 1 January 2015, for use up to 8 hours a day.
• Buying direct: Official online shop with euro prices including VAT.

Dauphin

A Bavarian family firm whose Indeed task chair declares EN 1335:2020 Type A, a 150 kg user rating and the Blauer Engel.

• Warranty: Indeed data sheet: 5-year guarantee according to Dauphin’s terms.
• Buying direct: An official online shop (shop.dauphin.de) lists selected models, including Indeed, with prices including German VAT.

Among the makers we profile: Löffler builds everything in Hersbruck; Wilkhahn’s main plant is Bad Münder; Sedus produces at Dogern and Geseke; Vitra assembles its seating in Weil am Rhein; Interstuhl says its EVERY range is manufactured in Germany; Dauphin names a production site in Germany.

Can I buy from a German manufacturer’s web shop if I live elsewhere?

Sometimes. Wilkhahn’s and Interstuhl’s official shops serve Germany and Austria. Under the EU Geo-blocking Regulation you may buy on the same terms as a German customer, but the shop only has to deliver where it already offers delivery, so you may need to arrange collection or forwarding.
